Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers must give individuals who are uninsured or not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including mental health care.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your scheduled service, outlining the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. You may also request a Good Faith Estimate in advance from any provider you choose. If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your estimate, you have the right to dispute it. Be sure to save a copy or photo of your Good Faith Estimate.
